Blogpost 5 : Kendrick Lamar : Cocky

Who is kendrick Lamar? Kendrick is a upcoming west coast rapper from compton. Kendrick is well known for is highly praised album/mixtape Section.80 and for recently being signed to Aftermath Records. His fellow west coast rappers Dr.dre, Snoop Dogg, Game have named him the new king of the west. They say that he is the future of hiphop. Is kendrick that cocky? why has he been bashing different other rappers?

Is Kendrick really that cocky? Based on his song control that he bashed and trash talked different other popular rappers in the industry. Cocky means Used to describe people who have an overly high opinion of themselves. Usually overly self-confident and/or overly self-assertive.

 In my first article which is Cocky Kendrick Lamar trash-talks Drake and other rappers in new song by Andrew Ryan That Kendrick Lamar is trash talking drake and the other rappers in his new song control by Big Sean. This rap song is really trending through twitter and the rap world. In his seven-minute song, Lamar employs the N-word several times and makes no secret of his intent to steal fans from some of the biggest names in the rap industry. Is Lamar cocky? The 26-year-old rapper,  was named Hottest MC by MTV last year, displays solid swagger with the boastful verse: “I’m Machiavelli’s offspring, I’m the king of New York/King of the Coast, one hand, I juggle them both.  ”So far, none of the other rappers named have voiced their displeasure with the new song.  Pusha T posted on Twitter to express his support of Lamar’s composition with the comment: “I hear u loud and clear. ”Big Sean also took to Twitter to explain to his four-million followers why Control wasn’t on his new album Hall of Fame, which drops August 27.

Why do rappers need to be cocky in the music industry? What's the psychology behind this kind of personality? On the second article that i read about which is written by Gad Saad entitled Why Do Male Rappers Throw Away Wads of Cash in Rap Videos? The articles suggests that  throwing money, driving fancy sports car is one way of expressing their power over their competitors. The bottom line is that the male rapper say "If I weren't so sublimely rich, I could not afford to throw away such loads of cash. However, my careless attitude toward money signals that I am immeasurably rich!" This certain psychology can also be explained by Charles Darwin's theory the Darwinian process of sexual selection (the evolution of traits or behaviors meant to augment one's success in the mating arena)

 It is evident in our society and in the music industry that competion among rappers and music artists is rampant and innevitable. People tend to compete with each other. It is a natural reflex of human beings. We are programmed to survive in any ways possible, and we are willing to do anything just to fit it. And in the case of music artists, being cocky, flashy, and egotistic is a natural defense mechanism. It can be explained by the constant struggle to be at the top and to be the best among the rest.

Blogpost 4 : Tyler The Creator : Racist

Tyler The Creator. Who is Tyler The Creator? Tyler is an american rapper and a record producer from los angeles california. He is the leader of the hiphop crew OFWGKTA. Tyler is one crazy person and doesn't care about anything. I like listening to tyler's songs especially my brother. I became interested in him because he has many different controversies that i have found out, And he is one of the rap artist i idolized. How do you classify tyler's personality? Why does he keep on bashing everyone else? Why does he talk and advert to much?

It is criticized that Tyler The Creator is a racist. A racist is described as believing that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others. Discrimination to others based on it's race.

In the first article i read about which is "Tyler The Creator's Most Racist Commercial In History" by Marc Zannotti  explains how Tyler The Creator express him being a racist in this mountain dew commercial. A new Mountain Dew commercial directed by Tyler The Creator has been pulled from the airwaves and Internet after accusations of racism. The ad was removed after political analyst Dr. Boyce Watkins addressed the commercial as “arguably the most racist commercial in history”, according to a post published by yourblackworld.netDr. Watkins said that, among other racial stereotypes, the entire line of people is consists of African American males, including a member of Odd Future left brain . Furthermore, each male is dressed up in stereotypical “ratchety” ghetto garb: “In the world of Mountain Dew, every single suspect is black. Not just regular normal black people, but the kinds of ratchety negroes you might find in the middle of any hip-hop minstrel show … Apparently, this is the kind of ad you put out if you want to appeal to the black male demographic.

The Second Article which is What is colorism? by Nadra Kareem Nittle Exactly what is colorism? From an old children’s rhyme captures the definition in a nutshell.
“If you’re black, stay back;
if you’re brown, stick around;
if you’re yellow, you’re mellow;
if you’re white, you’re all right.”
So colorism refers a discrimination based on skin color. Colorism disadvantages dark-skinned people, while they are privileging those with lighter skin. Research has linked colorism to smaller incomes, lower marriage rates, longer prison terms and fewer job prospects for darker-skinned people. Colorism has existed for centuries both in and outside of black America. That makes it a persistent form of discrimination that should be fought with the same urgency that racism is. In the commercial they represent the black side of people and the white side of the people that pertains to colorism.

For me tyler is a great hiphop artist but he should be aware of his actions, because his actions affects many people. We are all people we should not discriminate each other and it is best that we should be united and no one is left out. call him whatever but he is still a popular hiphop artist.

Blogpost 3: Black Eyed Peas : Song lyrics

Black Eyed Peas. We all know that Black Eyed Peas is a very popular american hiphop group. The group comprises Will. i.am, Taboo, and the singer Fergie and especially our fellow citizen apl.de.ap who was born here in angeles city pampanga philippines. Some people says that black eyed peas is a rap for white people and they are not actually a hiphop more likely a pop-rap group. I like listening to the songs of black eyed peas their songs are really catch but some of the songs is really annoying right? its repeating repeating like there is no end. So what is the story behind those song lyrics?

 In the article entitled : It's official black eyed peas have the worst lyrics ever by Judith Welikala The Black Eyed Peas might be on a hiatus at the moment, but they’re still at the top of the charts. Just maybe not the type of chart they’d hoped for.
According to Fuse, In the dance music festival Global Gathering they asked voters to pick a dance song. the people thought that "My humps." has the most ridiculous lyrics ever. The hiphop group Black Eyed Peas topped the vote for selling their multi-platinum single in 2006. When you listen carefully to their song you will notice the repeated lyrics again and again. Although their lyrics is repeated there album is still a success and new to people.

According to the 2nd article i read which is Proof that Music Is Growing Worse by Briggs In contrast, the 2009 top hit, Boom Boom Pow by the Black Eyed Peas was unsalvageable, because there is no tune to improve. The song consists a male vocalist repeatedly intoning “Boom boom boom” and “Shi**in’ on yall you with the (Boom boom)
a repetitive beat created on some sort of machine which, all evidence indicates, was broken.  generously counted 23% of the words are unique.
If a pop song had only one word which was repeated multiple times, where it was used like a blunt instrument, over its three-minute lifetime, the chance that that song is bad would be high. Imagine a monotonic single-word chant. For example, “Hey Jude” by The Beatles for sixteen lines they repeated nah nah nah nah over and over.
Limited vocabulary does not guarantee awfulness of the song. It is how the word is used in the lines of the song. Not all repeated lines is bad. You just have to use the word properly to be compatible.
A song with lyrics that are not repetitive is more likely to be good, or at least interesting. It increases the chance of a clear story, or message, the possibility of a beginning, middle, and end. Not that pop music, being popular, will ever be accused of sublimity. Strike that: never was accused of sublimity. Nowadays, we are told we are surrounded by genius. When critics are presented with less, they find more to praise.
In every song that is made there are different style of composing a lyrics, As for Black Eyed Peas although they repeated they're lyrics still they catch the attention of most people, But for some people they seem to be annoyed to the songs Black Eyed Peas is releasing and proclaiming that they have the worstest songs ever. I am still wondering how did the Black Eyed Peas still get the attention of some people like they said it is repeated still their song is a hit. But personally i think their group is very intelligent and talented. We can learn so much from them that they can still be effective even though they're so simple.

Blogpost 2: Eminem : What is behind eminem's songs

Marshall Bruce Mathers III or popularly known by his stage name eminem. I believe eminem as a white american male who came age in 2000's. Eminem is one of my idolized rapper in the industry of hiphop. The thing everyone knows about eminem is that he changed the game rap, He proved that white people can rap and he proved that white people could and would listen to rap. I listened a lot of eminem's songs when i was in elementary, although sometimes i really didn't understand the song but i still love it. But on hearing his songs i have noticed that each song has a meaning and sometimes relates to something that is very intriguing. So What is the meaning of his song lyrics?

In the article entitled Top 10 Eminem songs of all time by Henry Adaso, Eminem's stellar songwriting is part of what makes him one of the greatest emcees of our time. Whether he's dissing Mariah Carey or doting on his daughter, Eminem always seems to find the right combination of words and music. His catalog is bursting with such moments of brilliance. Check out the Detroit MC's best songs of all time. Eminem turned out to be a brilliant songwriter, he is very artistic in the every song he writes has a meaning the lyrics that he relates it sometimes to other people or a specific subject.

His song, entitled "Stan" shows his alter ego or his vulnerable side. This song speaks about a die hard fan who has somehow the same life experiences as Eminem's. Stan is the name of the fan who had an obsession with Eminem, who constantly send him letters. When his letters weren't answered, he put his girlfriend in the trunk of his car and drove off a bridge. When Eminem was about to reply to Stan's letters, he found out that Stan was the guy who drove off the bridge. This song was made to express Eminem's emotion to this kind of experience in his life and, therefore, shows his vulnerable side, far from his cocky image as a rapper.

The song "Lose yourself" is all based on his life and was featured in his first movie, 8 mile. The song tells about an inspirational thing for people and an introductory speech for himself about his own life. It's about losing yourself for a moment, grab every opportunity in life. You only get one shot in this life, you don't want to miss the opportunity. It's about seizing every moment and making the most out of everything, while it's there.

The song "The Way I am" is a song about his personality and how he defends himself from the people who bashes him with hate. As we all know, Eminem is a rapper, therefore he is engaged with foul-mouthed and dirty words for his lyricism, therefore making his personality seem cocky. But it's all for the business. The song also speaks about how Eminem hates boy bands so much that he can't stand it. Simply because he feels like it's too weak to be in the music industry, considering his personality as a rapper.

According to my second article i read about is Eminem quotes lyrics by fans "If I said in one of my songs that my English teacher wanted to have sex with me in junior high, all I'm saying, is that I'm not gay, you know? People confuse the lyrics for me speaking my mind. I don't agree with that life style, but if that lifestyle is for you, then it's your business."
"A lot of my rhymes are just to get chuckles out of people. Anybody with half a brain is going to be able to tell when I'm joking and when I'm serious." I eminem's lyrics he is expressing feelings and ideas for the listeners to understand, to be clear that there is a message for every song he makes.

Like him or hate him whatever you feel about him. One thing is that eminem has contributed a lot in the music industry, for me he is a brilliant rapper and a songwriter. He proved that a white boy can rap and at the same time compose a song that people can admire. I say that eminem is a valuable song artist and a writer and he deserving to be honored for his brilliance .

Blogpost 1: Kanye West: Narcissism

Kanye West. We hear this name from almost everywhere. From his music, which has no incredible flow, but has made some above average beats, that's why it fits in the music industry's mainstream. His exposure grew out from this incident of him grabbing the microphone from Taylor Swift while she was giving her speech in the VMA Awards. And of course, we all know about his controversial relationship with the more controversial Kim Kardashian. Personally, I love Kanye West. It's just the amount of crap he's doing with his life just to get attention that makes him an arrogant prick. How do you classify Kanye's personality? Why is he so obsessed about getting so much attention from people? Why does he talk about so much rubbish thoughts and even say it out in the media, and even include it in his music?

It is believed that Kanye West has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. The narcissist is described as being excessively preoccupied with issues of personal adequacy, power, and prestige. NPD is closely linked to self-centeredness. Narcissism is the pattern of traits and behaviors which involve infatuation and obsession with one's self to the exclusion of others and the egotistic and ruthless pursuit of one's gratification, dominance and ambition. But how can we really prove that he's narcissist?

Kanye West profoundly claims himself as the 'god of music' and even name his latest album 'Yeezus'. Why? The first article I read about which is Kanye West’s new album saturated with narcissism  written by Denis Bozic explains how his new album, Yeezus, bashed by the critics’ lavish praise, is already touching the skies, but any rational human being should be able to recogn

ize that this album is far from being a masterpiece. From the title of the album itself, you can already know that he's expressing narcissism. He entitled his album 'Yeezus' simply because he ragards himself as a god or someone close to it. As the article quotes, “I Am A God,” possibly the greatest ego-trip anthem, finishes off with West screaming, just after he proudly awards himself with the title of God. I can already foresee all the fans stating that there is hidden symbolism and some uncanny, timeless meaning behind these verses, but what’s symbolic about “I just talked to Jesus / He said ‘What up Yeezus?’ / I said, ‘Shit, I’m chilling / Trying to stack these millions’” It is very evident that the music is total crap and the only people who would appreciate this song is Kaye West himself, since it was all pure talking about himself.

The 2nd article i researched about narcissism of people through music is about The Incredibly Seductive Pull of a Very Skilled Narcissist, and it quotes, ''A skilled extreme narcissist knows just how to reflect your music back to you so that you feel like he has your playlist of favorite songs'', means that Kanye may be presenting himself as someone with a lot of money, more powerful, much more connection, and instills it to our brains like injecting poison, resulting for us to view him as someone higher than everyone else. That's where the notion of narcissism works, as a narcissist's personality may be composed of charm, makes himself stand out of the group and appears more astute than everyone else, is a great storyteller no matter it may be out of context as long as he satisfies his urge for egocentricity and attention. He is someone who is naturally believable when all he is the total contrary. They are able to cover tracks, which is a skill that deceives peoples belief about his past that he can be known as someone peculiar to others. Narcissist are also one of the greatest actors in the world, that one of the main characteristics of narcissism is that there is a wounded and insecure child inside the adult.

Kanye West is even racist. Racist in a sense that he hates people who thinks that black people are inferior because he thinks that 'black' people are the highest class in the human race. As most of us now know, the hugely successful rapper claimed that the government was sending troops to New Orleans not to help those in need but to “shoot us” and accused President Bush of not caring about blacks. But the fact that West is himself a racist must not be overlooked, or, as is the case with the mainstream media, completely ignored. West even refer white people as “the devil” or his claim that when a drug dealer buys Jordans and a “crack head buy crack, the white man get paid.” This statement is profane. But an even more no-brainer statement from West is “AIDS was a man made disease placed in Africa just like crack was placed in the black community to break up the Black Panther party,” as West told his fans during the Live 8 concerts this summer. His ideologies and philosophies in life are very oafish and inappropriate.

Kanye West, who compares himself variously to Michael Jordan, Steve Jobs, Rick Owens, Walt Disney Henry Ford, and Anna Wintour in a new 4,600-word interview with the New York Times. West even says that he and he alone is the nucleus of all societyThis shouldn’t exactly come as a shock; after all, the guy did name his new album Yeezus. And perhaps more importantly, West is hyper-aware of the vital role arrogance plays in his “brand”: “The idea of Kanye and vanity are like, synonymous,” he tells the Times during a brief moment of self-awareness. That being said, the interview really is a breathtaking study in the art of narcissism, regardless of whether it’s utterly serious or at least partially manufactured.

Call him what you may. An asshole, a genius or whatever. But one thing is for sure, the mainstream music industry needs him, and that is why he's so valuable. Anyone with any knowledge would know that Kanye has made one of the biggest impacts on hip-hop. The college dropout was the mark of a new era in hip-hop. He was never the soulful rapper, he was the different one. From his high-pitched samples, all the way to working with John Mayer and Adam Levine. What people don't see is this: he started a foundation to help kids get through school, blamed himself for his mothers tragic death, and all people can look at is the Taylor Swift incident. Narcissist or not, he's still Kanye West. And people will always look up to him as someone great, we can't do anything about it. I say, we learn from his flaws in life and respect Kanye as who and what he is.
